Birthday calculator

This works out how many days remain until your next birthday, which weekday it falls on and what age it will be. It also shows the count in weeks, which is the form that makes a distant date feel closer to hand.

The weekday is the part worth checking early. Friday in the UAE is a working day, though a shortened one, so a Friday birthday is not the free day it would be in most of the Gulf; a Saturday or Sunday one is. And because five of the twelve public holidays move about eleven days earlier each year, a birthday can sit inside Ramadan for a run of years, drift clear of it, and eventually come back round — the full cycle takes roughly thirty-three years. Anyone whose birthday currently falls close to Ramadan or to either Eid will see the relationship change noticeably within a decade.

Where the birthday has already passed this year, the count runs to next year's, so the answer is never negative. Where it falls on 29 February, the calculator counts to the next actual occurrence of that date rather than to a substitute.
