A half-birthday is the date exactly six months after a birthday, and the calculator returns it along with the weekday and the number of days from today. It is a light-hearted thing for adults and a genuinely useful one for children.
The reason it gets used at all is the school calendar. Nurseries and primary schools mark half-birthdays for pupils whose real ones fall during the long summer break, and in the UAE that break is long — most schools close from late June or early July and reopen in late August or early September, which sweeps up a substantial share of the year's birthdays. A half-birthday puts those children back inside term time.
The arithmetic follows the calendar-month rule: the day number is kept where the target month has one, and falls back to the last day of the month where it does not, so 31 August produces 28 February, or 29 in a leap year. For anyone who prefers a strict reading, the exact midpoint in days between one birthday and the next is shown alongside it, and the two answers can differ by a day or two.
