Subtracting days answers the backwards question: if something has to be finished, delivered or received on a given day, when does it need to start? Notice periods, cancellation windows, submission cut-offs, renewal lead times and shipping schedules all work this way.
The convention matches the forward version — subtracting one day from a Monday gives the Sunday — so the count is of days between rather than of items in a list. A rule requiring 28 days' notice before a date sets the last permissible day at the result shown here, and the wording of the rule itself decides whether that day is included or not.
The landing point is what needs checking. Nothing in a plain day count moves a result off a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday, but the office that has to receive whatever it is will be closed. In the UAE that risk is concentrated rather than spread: a result landing anywhere inside an Eid block can face four consecutive closed days with a weekend attached to one end. The calculator shows the weekday and flags a public holiday where the result hits one, so the clash is visible before it turns into a missed date.
