The duration calculator measures the span between two full date-and-time points, which is what an interval running longer than a day requires: a hire, a hotel stay, a shipment, a curing or setting time on site, a race. It reports days, hours and minutes, plus totals in hours and in minutes.
Because both ends carry a time as well as a date, the ambiguity that dogs day-only sums disappears. A vehicle collected at 4:00 pm on Thursday and returned at 10:00 am on Sunday is two days and 18 hours; counted as dates alone it is three, and counted as nights it is three as well. Where a charge or a service level attaches to the figure, the version with times on both ends is the one that reflects what happened.
Flights out of Dubai are the case where duration and clock difference part company most visibly, and it catches people constantly. A departure at 2:00 am arriving in London at 7:00 am the same morning is a flight of roughly eight hours, not five, because the destination clock sits three or four hours behind depending on the season. This calculator measures elapsed real time within a single zone; where the two ends are in different zones, convert both to one zone first, then measure.
