How to use the online alarm clock
Six in the evening is when the city switches on. The fountain shows at the foot of the Burj Khalifa run through the evening on the half hour, the promenades fill, and from October to April the outdoor restaurant terraces that are unusable in August are the busiest places in town.
It is also the hour that divides the working day from the second one. Evening classes, language courses and professional qualifications almost all start between six and seven, on the assumption that the commute has released people by then, and gyms hit their heaviest load of the day.
The daylight varies more across this hour than any other. In late June the sun is still up and setting after seven; in December it set an hour ago and the evening is fully dark.
