How to use the online alarm clock

Eleven in the morning is the last clear stretch before the middle of the day pulls everything apart. Government service centres are at their busiest, deliveries are being signed for, and offices are trying to finish anything that needs concentration before the noon prayer and lunch break the afternoon into pieces.

On a Friday the hour has a different weight. Federal offices finish at midday and many schools release pupils around noon, so eleven o'clock is the point at which a Friday morning is visibly running out — the last hour to reach a counter, sign something, or catch a colleague before the short day ends.

In Ramadan the same hour is quieter than any other month, since shortened working hours compress the day and much of the city has been up since before dawn. An alarm here is usually a reminder to do a specific thing rather than a wake-up, and the minute pages below cover the hour in full.
